During the night we were awakened by loud, awful sounds behind our house.
The noise continued for several hours, and I recorded this through our bedroom window.
Any guesses what creature we have living in our backyard?

Sounds to me like a pterodactyl. Yep, that's got to be it . . .

Good guesses, Ladies! : ) And the answer to your question is... I did NOT get any sleep while this was going on. It was unbelievably loud and rather distressing. Paul would have slept through it, but I woke him up to see if he knew what it was. He didn't, and promptly fell back to sleep. ; ) Evan heard it, but thankfully the rest of the kids stayed sleeping!
